Mentorship Guidelines

What is expected of a Mentee?

Each scholarship recipient will be matched with a mentor that will provide a 1:1 guidance to discuss personal and professional goals. Each mentee will share their written quarterly goals with specific outcome and intentions. It is the responsibility of the mentee to read over Together’s Mentee Handbook

Most of all we encourage you to:

●  Be motivated
●  Have great communication skills
●  Enjoy learning
●  Be a team player
●  Be committed
●  Have a positive attitude

What is expected of a Mentor?

Your role as a mentor is to inspire, encourage, and support your mentee and to contribute to her professional and personal development. A 12-month commitment, with a minimum of at least one meeting for 30 minutes every three months via telephone, Zoom, or on video call apps. Connect at your convenience and across time zones.

Help your mentee take a proactive role in the relationship.

It's not the responsibility of the mentor to step in and change mentee’s life through this relationship. We encourage mentees to drive and get to their destination. Each mentee will give their quarterly MAP and 12 month outcome. Let them be the pilot of their destiny!

Timelines

Meet at least every 3 months for 30 min. Mentor will ask:

"How can I help you?"

"Where are you now in your personal and educational goals?"

"Where do you want to be?"

Ettiquette for communicating

We want to give both mentors and mentees a say in who they’re paired with so they’ll be invested in the relationship. If the match needs to be adjusted please let us know immediately.

How To Get Started

Mentors personally reach out to their mentee initially.
We find that this provides a better impression to the mentee that you care about their development.

Suggestions for Effective and Successful Mentoring

Be inspirational
Be an active listener

During Mentorship Program

Please set aside time for the mentoring process and keep all commitments and scheduled appointments with your mentee. Hizon International Foundation (HIF) will monitor the program’s health with quarterly follow up to get valuable feedback. Please schedule the next meeting after each meeting.
